Itchy inner thighs can be cured with over-the-counter groin medications or by prescription from a doctor. This condition is generally caused by a fungal infection.
Itching in the groin or also called tinea cruris, usually caused by tinea fungal infections. This fungus thrives in areas of the body that are warm and moist, for example in the folds of the inner thigh (groin), genitals, and buttocks. These complaints often occur in people who sweat a lot, often wear tight pants, have certain diseases such as diabetes or a weakened immune system, and in obese people. Men are said to experience these symptoms more often but women can also experience them. If there are complaints you need an itch in the groin appropriate to overcome them.
Itching in the groin can spread from one person to another, and is very easy to spread. Can be through direct contact from skin to skin, because using the same clothes or towels with people with fungal infections, or it could also be because we have suffered other fungal infections in the nails or ringworm of the feet.
In addition to itching, tinea fungus can also cause a ring-shaped red rash like a ring, on the edges of the rash can form blisters and lesions that appear more active than the middle of the rash. In addition, tinea fungus can also cause painful or itchy sensations, and peeling skin in the infected area. This infection occurs more frequently in the summer or in warm, humid, and cloudy areas such as in tropical regions including Indonesia.
Some other diseases that can also cause itching in the groin are: pubic lice or pediculosis pubis, inversion psoriasis (a variation of psoriasis that affects the folds of the body), intertriginous dermatitis (irritable condition of the skin in the area of the body folds due to heat, repetitive friction in the long run, or in contact with certain irritants), or eczema in areas of skin folds such as folds of the armpits, folds of the elbows, folds behind the knees, and folds of the thighs.
The symptoms of eczema on the skin folds can be in the form of itching or pain, a burning sensation on the skin in the area of the body folds accompanied by rashes and reddish bumps. These skin lesions can develop into open sores, crusts, or sores if they are often scratched or due to secondary infection. Inverse psoriasis is different in general psoriasis which has symptoms of dry and flaking skin. In this disease, the skin will look reddish, shiny, and smooth and moist. This inflamed skin will feel itchy or painful like irritation. This inflammatory condition accompanied by dampness in the folds of the skin can also trigger secondary fungal infections.
How to cure it?
Treatment of itching complaints in the groin adjusted to the cause. Mild itching medicines in the groin are available in various types, ranging from ointments, creams, or antifungal powder to tinea cruris which are sold freely at the nearest pharmacy or drug store. The remedies are miconazole, naftifine, clotrimazole, ketoconazole, or oxiconazole. How to use an ointment or antifungal cream on the rash that is clean and dry the skin, apply the drug to the lesion up to 1-2 cm beyond the edge of the lesion, especially on rash lesions that have blisters. The use of corticosteroid drugs in fungal skin infections should be consulted with a doctor. In contrast to the treatment of fungal infections in the groin, if itching in the groin is caused by eczema on the folds of the skin or inverted psoriasis, the ointment given is corticosteroid ointment. This is because both diseases are caused by inflammatory conditions that cause complaints on the skin in the groin and are treated with anti-inflammatory corticosteroid drugs. If there are signs of secondary infection due to bacteria or fungi, the doctor can give antibiotic or antifungal ointments according to the cause. To eradicate pubic lice that cause itching in the groin, the doctor will give anti-puff ointment that is applied all over the body, especially in the hairy area and left overnight or as recommended by the doctor. Do not apply anti-bacterial medication to the mucosa of the eyes, lips, or genitals because it will cause irritation. Pubic lice can be contagious to other people, so avoid excessive physical contact to prevent transmission. Itching medication in the groin due to fungal infections is believed to cure itching within 2-4 weeks of use. However, although it can recover quickly (less than two weeks), it is recommended to continue using the drug for one to two weeks. In patients with certain conditions that complain of itching in the groin as in people with diabetes or obesity, blood sugar and body weight need to be controlled to support healing of the skin. For the use of anti-dung, if the lice are still difficult to eradicate or complaints persist after using anti-dung ointment twice, you are advised to consult your doctor again. Now, if the itching infection is widespread, difficult to treat, or cause inflammation, there is an itch drug in the groin that is stronger, namely itraconazole or terbinafine. Of course, before using itching drugs it is advisable to first consult with a dermatologist to get the right treatment. And the drug must be purchased using a doctor's prescription. In addition to using drugs, there are also additional simple treatments that must be done to relieve or eliminate itching in the groin, namely:- Clean the itchy groin area with soap and water, at least 2-3 times a day. Then dry with a clean towel. Choose soap that does not contain irritants.
- Don't use the same towel to dry other parts of the body.
- Change clothes, especially underwear, every day.
- Keep the skin in the groin area, aka the groin, clean and dry.
- Wear loose clothing, not one that is easy to swipe and touch the infected area.
- It is recommended to use clothing, especially underwear, which is made of 100% cotton.
- Do not use strong detergent, fabric softener, or bleach to prevent irritation that can aggravate itching complaints.
- If the itchy groin area is sweaty, dry it immediately.
- If there is another bacterial infection, treat it immediately. Signs of bacterial infection are if the abscess develops, the skin is swollen and painful, or there is a rash that is crusty due to pus that dries on the skin.
- Don't scratch the rash because the fungus can move to other parts of the body. Scratching the lesion can also cause sores, making itching difficult to heal and risk of secondary infection.
